A few weekends ago my dad came back from
the supermarket with a bag of potatoes. Nothing too out of the
ordinary there, I thought, until I noticed the face of Desperate
Housewives star Marcia Cross staring back at me from the cellophane
wrapper.
Cross's Housewives co-stars, who include Teri Hatcher and Eva
Longoria, have done their fair share of endorsements: shampoo, make-up, even ice creams, but not potatoes.
It wasn't until a few days later that it all clicked into
place, when the new Roosters
advert came on the TV.
The advertising industry doesn't always like to poke fun at
itself, and Hollywood A listers even less so, but when they do, as
with this and the brilliant Orange Wednesdays promotions in
cinemas, it makes you appreciate what an art it really is to
capture your attention in those moments when you could quite easily
choose to switch over, nip to the loo or make a cup of tea.
