Why is it that women and men can’t shop together?

After numerous unsuccessful shopping trips with my boyfriend - and walking through town listening to other couples argue - I still don't have the answer to this.

Next time you go shopping check out how many men are standing around aimlessly, rather than putting themselves through the torture of "does this look nice on me" or "does my bum look big in this."

The reason is simple: men hate shopping.

According to recent research the shopping habits of men and women will always be incompatible. Apparently it's down to "inherent behavioural and attitudinal differences."

Both sexes display primeval instincts in the high street. Men want to go for the "kill", with specific items in mind. As such, they're more decisive.

It can take a man no more than one hour to refresh his entire wardrobe. He'll point at what he wants, ask for a certain size and hand over his credit card.

Women are generally categorised as "gatherers" who treat bargain hunting as a leisure pursuit and enjoy searching for hours on end to find the perfect dress, shoes, bag and not to mention the jewellery (co-ordination is a must!) .

We are happy to meander through sprawling clothing and accessory collections or detour through the shoe department. We like to glide up glass escalators past a grand piano, or spray a perfume sample on ourselves on our way to, maybe, making a purchase. We can't help it, of course.

So, not only are high street arguments inevitable, but women are also proven to be better shoppers than men, says researchers.

When it comes to shopping, ladies, the best thing for us to do is call up our friends and make a day of it (the best way to shop in my opinion, as I'm sure many men will agree).

An example of why it will never work? Try this.
