When PR goes wrong

Last week, the painfully bland scenario of Peter Andre launching a new line of drinks for Costa Coffee turned into something of a PR disaster.

Andre only got the gig because he is famous for marrying and divorcing glamour model Katie Price, but when his PR company invited the Daily Mirror's 3am girlsdown to interview him at a London branch of Costa, they wanted to impose a number of conditions that the Mirror rightfully refused.

These included full copy approval, restrictions on the questions asked (about Costa coffee and only Costa coffee - how much is there to say?) and accompanying all photos of Andre "under all circumstances" with positive text, captions and headings.

While Costa certainly got plenty of publicity off the back of this - and I shudder to think how much they shelled out to get Andre there - the man himself has been left looking a bit silly and has also lost the support of one of the country's most popular celebrity gossip pages.

Quite why you would want to draw attention to the fact that someone who is, notionally at least, a singer has been reduced to dishing out coffee is another matter altogether.
