For all the change the city of Liverpool has seen during its history, one of the constants has been the Liverbird as the symbol of the city. There are many representations of the bird around the city if you know where to lookand it has to be one of the most recognisable city symbols in the country.
One of the city's birds has recently been given a makeover. The city council'sfootball-neutral purple Liverbird has been given some neater and more elegant plumage in its latest incarnation.
This all happened without any fanfare or fuss or sensationalist media coverage regarding how much it has cost the local council tax payer.
Spare a thought then for the local authority in Ilfracombe in Devon. Their new brand identity hit the headlines last week owing to part of it having an, at best passing, resemblance to human sperm.
This triggered just the typeof media coverage you would expect from the red tops. Whether this was all part of a campaign to help put the town on the map we will never know, but it certainly has done the trick.
You can't help wondering if it would not have been better to
release it in the run up to the summer though.
