Maybe it is the long winter evenings, but the country of Sweden is
currently having an enormous and disproportionate effect on the
world's music industry.
The answer to the question, 'What shall we do tonight?' is
clearly, 'Let's revolutionise the way people consume
music.'
The country's only real claim to world-wide musical fame is
ABBA but a new generation is causing a major stir through the
application of web technology.
The Pirate Bay is still happily signposting users to bit
torrent files despite the recent high-profile court case
andSpotify is about
to
secure funding from the Far East and launch an iphone
application.
Although firmly at the opposite end of the legitimacy spectrum,
Spotify, like Pirate Bay, is blowing a typhoon through the
traditional music retail world.
For the consumer, Spotify is a no-brainer: on demand online free
music. The only distraction for the free version being the odd
advert, so it's a bit like commercial radio only with fewer
Simply Red numbers - unless that floats your boat of course!
