Scooping part of the National Lottery PR account was a major milestone along Paver Smith's journey towards its goal of being the best, explains Dougal Paver.
Forgive me here, but we had to be in it to win it. And how did we buy our golden ticket that allowed us the opportunity to pitch? The same way we've made all our other progress: by finding outstanding people with proven relationships to join our merry band.
How else do businesses succeed but with a policy of finding the best talent and then improving on it?
Bit by bit there's a recognition that our investment in training and development, matched by a keen nose for talent at all levels, is paying off. It was part of the citation in our recent award as PR agency of the year and even garnered a grudging acknowledgement from a competitor recently.
We don't always get our people decisions right: no one ever does. But there's a relentlessness about our focus that I see paying real dividends. For a start, I've never worked anywhere with such a happy, stable team.
This morning more than a dozen of the team are in another of the modules that form the core curriculum in our training academy. Most satisfying? Hearing a couple of them yesterday discussing, animatedly, what the session might bring.
So, we'll continue to invest in ourselves to ensure that we offer our clients the best knowledge, insights and advice that we can.
Now where's that lottery ticket?
