Last week, George Osborne unveiled his emergency budget, ushering in the much talked about age of austerity. If that wasn't depressing enough, it came with the promise that further details of cuts of up to 25% in some departments will be announced later this year.
But one huge public body which appears to have escaped relatively unscathed is the BBC. Let's not forget, this is an organisation which pays more than 100 of its executives more than the Prime Minister, with director general, Mark Thompson, on a heart-stopping £800k per year.
Steven Glover, writing in yesterday's Independent, points out this inequality and asks if it is really fair that the BBC continues to spend like we're booming when the rest of the country has gone bust.
I am a fan of the BBC and think it provides an important service, but that shouldn't exempt it from the same cuts to which the rest of us have been subjected.
