To blog, or not to blog?

Writing a weekly blog is an enjoyable process and provides an interesting diversion from PR work.

The challenge for us bloggers is thinking up and deciding on a new topic every week. Normally there are plenty of ideas to choose from but, occasionally, we can suffer bloggers block.

The desertion of suitable blog ideas can prove a huge affliction and so colleagues are called on for ideas, as well as checking the news for ideas and inspiration, before writing a hopefully fantastically insightful and witty(!) blog.

However, it is great practice for anyone working in PR, no matter what level, as it helps to hone writing and communications skills and requires creative thinking every week.

Blog writing also has benefits for our clients. With such a diverse client base here at Paver Smith, the PR activity and challenges are very different for each of them.

Some clients naturally generate a large amount of news which keeps campaigns ticking over. Others require more creative thinking to generate great features and coverage and so the more practice in inventive thinking, the better.

So while the brain-wracking might take time on occasion, blog writing provides a bit of fun for us and is beneficial for our clients, so it is good practice all round.
