Those of a nervous disposition should look away now, says Dougal Paver.

Truth - the unadulterated, honest-to-goodness type - is a rare commodity in politics. Less so in PR, of course - you're toast if caught in even a half-lie. I received an email from a prominent journalist this morning saying "honest as ever" - which is how it must be in our game.

Journalists are bound by the same rules, of course, but the sin of omission can be one they enjoy. Regularly, in fact, if Liam Halligan in the Telegraph is to be believed.

In short, he accuses politicians and the media of ignoring the true depth of the country's financial mess. Perhaps they think we couldn't cope with the truth. Of course we can: we're grown-ups, for heaven's sake.

Anyhow, once you've read it you may want to skim through this...
