Rested soldiers fight smarter

Depending on how the various dates fall over Christmas we generally top up the team's holiday allowance by two or three days. A nice reward for a year's hard work.

Everyone gets the chance to rest and re-charge their batteries, returning in the new year ready for the fight.

Our financial year starts January 1st and we quite like the finality of Christmas: another year of progress, a good rest, then another year's hard scrapping.

2009, of course, will be the fight of our lives: powers greater than us have conspired to cock things up quite spectacularly. So fight we will.

We're launching our new Training Academy to ensure that everyone, from private to general, has the skills, outlook and knowledge to serve our clients better and help us find new ones.

It's a sort of top-up to Investors in People status, but quite a big one - we're throwing serious resource at it. Hardly rocket-science, mind: since when have ill-prepared troops ever won a war?

And do we think it will make a difference? You bet we do. Our business plan, signed off by some very savvy investors, anticipates more than 50% growth in 2009.

Michaelangelo, bright fellow that he was, once noted that "our greatest fear in life should not be that we aim high and miss, but that we aim low and achieve it." Exactly.

So, 50% plus growth, achieving ISO 14001, a new training academy and a few more interestesting structural announcements early in the new year should see us right.

Bring it on - and 'up yours' to the pillocks who got us in to the current predicament. You know who they are.
