I like looking at different events, and highlighting their
linkage, or maybe try to find some reason in apparently
un-connected activities. I loved the thinking behind Freakanomics,
and their different take on how bits of the world work, and this
week I offer the following:
1. Were we not recently committed to a strong green policy which
taxed motorists highly for using their vehicles - high duties on
petrol, high car tax, onerous parking charges?
2. Had we just concluded that part of the current problems
originated in the availability of too much credit to too many
people?
So with that in mind what are some of our leaders, all around the
world now suggesting:
Let's help the car companies sell more of their
products to more people by giving out more loans to people who one
day may not be able to repay this.
Clearly there is undoubtedly some very good
economic theory behind all that, and a short term expediency to
help some very important parts of our economy and communities, but
it does strike me that there is a fundamental flaw lurking within
all of that.
