Dougal Paver has nothing to say today. In the age of information overload, that's got to be a blessing.
The kids are fed and watered, the papers have been read and I've prepared my 12 bore ahead of a day's shooting with a client.
There's no urge to rant - a surprise, having just dipped in to the Daily Mail - and there's precious little going on out there to raise my hackles.
Isn't silence golden?
Would someone tell that to our government, then? The incessant need to bombard us with every last detail of their waking moments has brought our profession in to disrepute. Some would say that we were doing a perfectly adequate job of that on our own, thank you very much.
Anyhow, the point is that if a body overdoes communication its audience switches off or, at the very least, becomes cynical about its motives. Less is often more when it comes to managing your dialogue with stakeholders.
Whoever takes power after the forthcoming election - and the polls keep telling us it won't be Labour - then they'd be well advised to tone down the noise and keep their pronouncements to ones of major strategic value.
Now where did I put those ear plugs?
