Nobles Construction has been awarded a £800,000 contract by Queenscourt Hospice in Southport, Merseyside.
The contractor has been appointed to build two ward extensions to improve facilities and increase bedroom size. Moveable walls will be used to create more flexible space and allow wards to be converted into single-use rooms to enhance patient privacy.
The 43-week project will also include landscaping and restoration work to the rear woodland area. Work will be completed by June 2011.
Peter Linford, director at Nobles Construction, said: "This is the sixth health contract we've secured this year and we have another four out to tender. We're really beginning to reap the rewards of our sector experience, despite such a competitive market place, which is down to our ability to add to and enhance plans while also working within tight budgets and timescales."
Ann Throp, director of non clinical services at Queenscourt Hospice, said: "We were really impressed with Nobles' approach to the scheme, particularly their ability to ensure work is completed with minimal disruption.
"We're delighted to be in a position to move forward with the developments and deliver an environment that allows our patients to feel comfortable while receiving the best care possible."
Queenscourt Hospice is an independent charity that provides specialist palliative care and support services for people living with terminal illness, their carers and families. The refurbishment and improvement works was funded by charity donations and a grant from the Department of Health.
