Martyn Best, Managing Director

The world is a fascinating place, ponders Martyn Best, full of interest, challenges and news opportunities galore.

It's what helps make Paver Smith such a great place to be at, with every day having different facets and it's why I've always thought that the life of a journalist or news reporter must contain wider delights.

So, having listened to and watched the news yesterday it's rather sad to note that we might be losing that kaleidoscopic element to our world.

Clearly the recession is over, the G8 have solved global poverty, Michael Jackson, sadly, is nearly buried, there's no more dodgy MP's expenses to report upon and the Aussies are about to restore normality.

So the headline news has only the poor morsel of a 2 or 3 year old story about the former editor of a Sunday newspaper who seems to be guilty of . . . oh, er, nothing.

Can we now only be judged on our capability to perform our current role by being defined by the failures or lessons of our past. Oops - we're all doomed.

Now my cynical friends may well say that it's just another fine example of politicking ahead of the looming General Election and a tedious attempt at weakening an oppositions team - surely not.

Clearly now, with Alex Ferguson beaming from the front pages - it's a gentle reminder that the new football season is just around the corner.
