Nitty Nora's reach knows no bounds

Story and product placement seem to have reached children's TV if this morning's C-beebies is anything to go by, suggests Dougal Paver.

Do you remember Nitty Nora? The matronly figure from primary school whose tasks was to fiddle through your hair in search of head lice?

A throw-back to another, gentler age, when kids played together, digging tunnels, climbing trees, smashing up phone boxes and setting fire to cats. Perfect close-quarter pass-times for nits to jump about from head to head.

Perhaps sitting on the sofa playing computer games together allows just as much scope for nit-transfer these days. You'd think so, given the story line on Little Princess at 7am this morning.

The whole thing was like an animated public health broadcast, given humour by Julian Clary's distinctive voice. Are there no bounds to story and product placement these days?

And, thanks to the power of suggestion, I've not stopped scratching since. Darned nuisance.
