At the weekend, millions of people across the world tuned into the biggest race meeting of the year, the Grand National.
As thousands descended on Aintree Racecourse across three days, they all shared a determination to place a winning bet or two, but also to have a great time.
Certainly in Liverpool, and I'm sure across the North West and Ireland, the Grand National is an annual knees-up that people look forward to weeks, if not months, in advance.
Unfortunately, some newspapers seem to relish their annual opportunity to criticise Scousers, in particular the females who attend the event.
The Daily Mail's yearly ritual of cherry-picking the biggest "offenders" is almost as much of an event as the National itself.
I am not for one minute suggesting that the fashion on show is to everyone's taste - but variety, as they say, is the spice of life. And what have any of these women done apart from spending hours and I dare say a good chunk of their wages getting themselves ready for their big day out?
But as the pictures show, they have had a great time regardless and long may they continue to do so.
