Liverpool hosted its first Pride event at the weekend, attracting more than 21,000 revellers to the city centre in support of Liverpool's gay, lesbian, bi-sexual community.
The event, which spanned two days, included a parade, musical performances, art exhibitions, film screenings and sport tournaments.
While the event plays an important role within Liverpool, it also helps boost the city's perception nationally, not only as an accepting and open-minded place, in line with the likes of London and Manchester which have well-established Pride events, but also as a city that has the capability to host events of this scale.
So for all the inevitable criticism of road closures and litter that accompanies any outdoor event, Liverpool Pride will help attract other events to the city - like the MOBO awards in October and next year's Liverpool Boat Show.
And let's not forget the economic benefits to businesses enjoying an extra 21,000 people in town at the weekend.
Liverpool has every right to be proud and long may events like Liverpool Pride continue.
