So the day that Scousers have been
waiting for has arrived - a reason to stop dragging ourselves to
the Trafford Centre
or Manchester city centre for shopping, a spot of lunch, with maybe
a visit to the cinema.
Today the entire 42 acres of shopping and leisure at Livepool One will be
fully accessible. Alongside the opening of more key shops and
leisure facilities we will also have access to a newly-built open
terrace featuring restaurants and bars alongside a new fourteen
screen cinema, not to mention the chance to explore the 5 acre
Chavasse Park. I have to say that I can't wait.
This project has been a long time coming but since 21 acres first
opened in May it has been a major attraction and has improved the
image of Liverpool. The
Liverpool One project has definitely put us on the map and has had
a positive reaction by people both within and out of the city.
I was very pleased a couple of weeks ago to open one of my girly
mags and see Liverpool listed along with Montreal, Kuala Lumpur and Milan as
one of the up and coming cities to visit for 'Retail
Heaven' and a celebrity photo shoot taken in our very own
Liverpool One. Who'd have thought several years ago that this
would be the case, especially to be mentioned above Manchester?
Certainly not me.
For too many years now we have been in Manchester's shadow but
hopefully this development, along with the many other fantastic
things that have been happening around the city this year, means
that we will be able to shine on our own and slowly but surely
eliminate that shadow.
