We wanted it more, pure and simple. And that's what Chelsea will fear most, says a knackered but happy Dougal Paver.
Just back in from Wembley and it's been interesting to reflect on the importance of hunger and desire in winning. Not for nothing do we talk about a 'winning mentality'.
Today we showed it more than Manchester United to confound those who subscribe to the belief that money will tell in these circumstances. Hunger beats the Yankee dollar any time when that's all that separates two teams.
And so we're off to meet the ultimate Johny-come-latelys to the English game, Chelsea, on May 30th. I said here that a trip to Wembley's always a good day out and now I have another to look forward to.
But will I be happy with a potless day out? Shouldn't I say 'yes' so that people will think of us as 'plucky Everton' when we lose?
No, no and thrice no. We can win this. We've beaten three of the top five clubs to reach the final, so of course we can beat a fourth.
As in business, winning is a state of mind. How much do we want this? An awful lot more than the aristos of SW3, would be my guess. Let's just hope they get through to the European Cup final in Rome and come to Wembley knackered.
As one particularly famous Blue often notes, every little helps.
