Landis+Gyr
is an international manufacturer and supplier of advanced metering
products.
It operates within the UK's utilities and energy sectors. These
are dominated by the big six energy retailers including British
Gas, Powergen, SSE, Npower, Scottish Power and EDF.
The sector remains under a constant media spotlight and public gaze
due to escalating energy prices and mounting interest in carbon
emissions.
The utilities and energy sectors are populated by a diverse range
of retailers/suppliers, consultants, trade organisations, QUANGOS,
parliamentary groups and environmentalist.
In the UK, its Ampy Metering subsidiary specialises in developing
smart metering technology.
The technology is designed to increase householder knowledge of
energy usage to promote efficiency in the UK's domestic sector.
Ampy Metering has invested £10 million in developing a range
of smart meters. The meters communicate directly with energy
retailers and provide householders with live, accurate data about
their energy usage in kWh, monetary and carbon emissions terms.
Ampy is supplying smart meters to three of four Government trials
that will test the technology in more than 15,000 UK homes by the
end of 2009.
