As noted in this blog previously, major international events can
play an important role in communicating what different places have
to offer.
The most recent example has been the World Championships
Athleticswhich have just concluded in Berlin.
The marathon routes of the major international games are always
very telling and are clearly designed with boosting tourism and
selling the city in mind.
Having been lucky enough to have visited the Berlin recently, I can
confirm that the city is as vibrant and welcoming as it appeared on
TV. It is also steeped in history - none of which is glossed over
or forgotten.
The worldwide exposure the games have provided will undoubtedly
have given the German tourist board a shot in the arm.
A well organised event, hosted in world-class facilities and
witnessing record breaking events, can do a tremendous amount for a
place.
Even better if this can take place is a city which has changed
physically in living memory but managed to retain a sense of
individuality and uniqueness.
