One of last week's biggest stories was that of married Tiger
Woods's indiscretions with several "other"
women, which emerged after he crashed his
car following a heated domestic argument, ironically involving a
golf club.
To call this a PR disaster would be putting it mildly. This is
someone who, days earlier, was predicted to become sports'
first billionaire, and he didn't get there through his sporting
ability alone.
Woods has made his fortune with a long list of lucrative
endorsement deals, flogging everything from cars and watches to
shaving foam.
A lot of these were based on his wholesome, family-man (and quite
frankly dull) public image. And, as with the David Beckham/Rebecca
Loos scandal from a few years back, this image is now in pieces.
But as Beckham has shown, some public figures seem to exist on a
level above which the rest of us operate - while mud sticks to us,
it falls effortlessly away from them.
Only time will tell if Woods can weather this storm.
