In launching its new iPhone app Paver Smith has found itself at the cutting edge of PR innovation. And, happily, that was the plan all along, says Dougal Paver.
Our new app - PR tips, daily - went live just before the bank holiday so that we could let pals have a look and give us their feedback.
The App Store being what it is - namely, a lively platform for innovators, early adopters and the information-hungry - we found that folk outside our immediate circle had spotted it and started downloading it. And, as we hoped, it's already causing a bit of a stir.
Here's a typical review from a nice chap in Ottawa called Rob McLean, who summarises quite neatly why we did it in the first place.
Nice to have pipped the competition, globally, to the post on this. Yesterday's announcement to the media was designed to reflect that.
So here's another top tip: if you can begin a press release with summat like "In a first of its kind move..." then you're on to a winner. Almost always.
I'll keep you posted from time to time on how many people have downloaded the app and the impact it's had - after all, its purpose is to draw people to us so that we can form relationships with them. It's also a good experiment so that we can advise clients from a position of experience, as we do with our twitter feed and facebook group.
