Few people could have escaped the fact that this week was the
40th anniversary of the first moon landings.
While conspiracy theorists still cling desperately to the belief
that the landings did
not happen, the rest of the rational world has been able to
marvel at the triumph and consider what could have been achieved in
the intervening years had the political need remained.
Amid the celebrations and a rare public
appearance from Mr giant-leap himself, NASA has released a
range of amazing images that burst this particular conspiracy
bubble once and for all.
NASA's amazing images show for the first time the items left
behind on the moon's
surface- the lunar modules can be clearly seen casting long
shadows onto the moon's surface.
Clearly NASA knew that releasing these images at this time would
have the most impact and help explain that space exploration, if
not quite the space race, continues.
