The launch for the Jellybean Kids' Appeal raft race took
place last night.
Prospective team members, captains and supporters of the appeal
joined together to discuss tactics and preparations for the race,
which takes place in September.
Gusto in Heswall hosted the event and a few attendees, including
myself, took part in a test construction of the raft. While other
guests looked on, we tried to work out what bits of wood, rope and
barrel went where.
After lots of team work (which will prove very important on race
day apparently) we had built something that resembled a raft, but
whether it would have floated or not, who knows.
Paver Smith are entering a team in the race called Shock and Oar
and the valuable tips picked up on raft building will really come
in handy in helping us not sink!
The race is taking place as part of activity to raise £80,000
for a paediatric cardiac scanner for Wirral University Teaching
hospital.
