Everyone needs PR

This summer a superhero film with a difference comes out - in 'Hancock' everyone hates the titular character because of the damage he causes while saving the world. Luckily, someone is on hand to give him some much needed PR support.

This got me thinking: which other fictional characters could have done with some PR?

Bond villains (Dr No, et al)
The problem with Bond villains is that they always draw up their plans for world domination in secret, before trying to force the idea on an unsuspecting public.

What they needed was a public consultation. Early engagement with key stakeholders could have garnered support if the positive aspects were explored, and objections could have been dealt with before trying to put their plans into action.

Yes, they may be planning to melt the polar ice caps, but think of the new coastal towns and massive job creation in the science and henchman industries.

The Grinch (How the Grinch stole Christmas!)
There is no doubt that the Grinch stole Christmas. But a savvy PR team could have informed the world's media that in doing so he reminded everyone what was important about the festive period, such as spending time with your loved ones.

Remember, he gave all the presents back in the end… it was all a publicity stunt you see.

Neo (The Matrix)
Poor Neo had everyone thinking that he was 'The One' and he couldn't get a minute's peace. I can't think of anyone more in need of emergency media management. With agents, oracles and believers all after his time he could have done with someone to take calls, prepare press statements and generally keep the spotlight off him.

Bennett Marco (The Manchurian Candidate)
This character was on the run because he believed that the government was brainwashing soldiers. He should have instructed his PR team to devise a lobbying programme, dealing directly with stakeholders and key government officials, and building up a media campaign.

It's a much better way of building awareness for your message and would have raised Marco's profile, making him a much harder target.

Marty McFly (Back to the Future trilogy)
Every time he went backwards or forwards in time he managed to make Doc Brown pass out in shock. Sometimes in PR there is only one chance to deliver your message - with the right training McFly could have targeted his audience properly, first time.
