Everton in The
Community (EiTC) held the grand final of their table top
football event last week, and even had a star guest at the final
presentation.
EiTC devised the exciting contest
which brings together elderly residents of Southern Cross Health
Care homes, in Merseyside, with local school children.
Everton's Nuno Valente became
the star of a different type of football as he joined in the fun
with the residents and school children.
Southern Cross Health Care has been
a constant support to EiTC and has been given financial sponsorship
during the last five years to help expand their disability
programme.
The table top football competition
was entered by 10 Southern Cross care homes and 10 local schools
from across Merseyside. There has been a competition at each of the
care homes with local school children teaming up with residents,
and the winners of each then went on to compete in a grand final.
The overall winners were Albert
Roberts from Crompton Court care home In Vauxhall and Ellie
Dunbavin and Olivia Kavanagh from St. Charles RC Primary School,
Aigburth.
They were presented with their trophies by Everton left back
Valente. The runners up were presented with medals, goodie bags and
an autograph from Valente.
Steve Johnston, disability coach at EiTC
said: "Everton in The Community has been running the table top
football competition for a number of years and this is a great fun
competition to integrate Everton Football Club, and the older
members of our society, with some of our local school children.
This competition reinforces Everton's reputation as "the
Peoples Club."
Scott Black, volunteer
co-coordinator at
EITC added "Today's event has been great and so enjoyable
for all the residents and children, especially when Nuno came along
to present the prizes. We hope to continue to run this successful
programme in the future."
