A criticism often levelled at people in my age group is that we aren't engaged in politics, and there is a sense of apathy about the whole thing.
At the last election, this would certainly be true of me, but this time around is different, and this is mostly due to the leaders' live debates on TV.
The debates brought politics to life and also introduced the Lib Dems as a real alternative to Brown and Cameron, which threw a spanner in the works for the Conservatives especially. This has led to one of the most unpredictable election campaigns for years and has made it something exciting to get involved with.
Because of the debates, my friends and I are talking about politics and who we're voting for when we're at the pub, whereas previously we couldn't have cared less, and people are posting links on Facebook to newspaper articles they have read and want to share with their friends. The debates apparently caused a surge in last-minute voter registration.
So to say that young people aren't engaged in politics is way off the mark.
