Liverpool's commercial district has been named amongst the best in the world by an international committee of peers.
The area was hailed in a report by Sustainable Network, a multinational collection of business districts from cities such as Moscow, Beijing and Toronto, committed to reducing the environmental impact of development and management practices.
In the group's latest survey, Liverpool is acclaimed for compiling a sustainable building manual, while it also scores highly in its efforts at renovating listed buildings and recycling debris from construction projects.
Liverpool CDP chief executive, Paul Rice, has since been invited to an international workshop in Montreal, where he will spend the next week leading the discussion on mobility, in addition to topics such as energy management and life cycle.
The work of Liverpool CDP also attracts praise, with the city ranking alongside Seoul and Toronto as an exemplar in its work to engage with stakeholders and provide additional support to members such as marketing, training and event organisation.
Rice explained: "Increasingly, property owners are finding issues such as reducing energy costs, developing travel plans and hitting the highest possible BREAMM standards as priorities for new and existing occupiers.
"Our relationship with Sustainable Network is providing to be of great benefit to the commercial district and the city as a whole and it could give Liverpool a leading edge in attracting and retaining business.
"Together with our partners at the council, Merseytravel, The Mersey Partnership, Groundwork and the Chamber of Commerce, we are aiming to ensure this a work in progress that enables us to implement internationally recognised best practice."
