The inauguration of Barack
Obama inspired blanket coverage across Britain's news
channels and the rest of the world.
The live feeds covered every moment of the event, and
yesterday's newspapers were filled with news and details from
Obama's big day.
The headlines and reports focused on the hope that is sweeping
through America that great change is coming- with Obama promising
to fight climate change, reduce troop numbers in Iraq and sort out
the economy.
Some of the best headlines that I have seen in the event coverage
are:
REBORN IN THE USA- Daily Mirror
BARACK TO THE FUTURE- Aberdeen Evening Express
Both reflect the change in mood across America and the sense of a
brighter future but playing on iconic songs and films.
HOME TOWN IS OFFALY HAPPY- The Mirror, Irish Edition
Many countries and towns across the globe are claiming Obama as
their own- including Moneygall in Ireland where the new
president's great, great, great-grandfather is said to come
from.
ARETHA SANG, HUW GOT FLUSTERED, TOTTENHAM WENT WILD AND IT ALL WENT
DARK IN KENYA- The Guardian
A headline which reflects the diversity of the day's events and
the spread of Obama-fever around the world. And the pressures of
hosting a live news special where quite often, not a lot is
happening.
LET'S GET TO WORK- Daily Record
Quite simply expressing that Obama now has to get on with the job
in hand.
And last but not least we have an excellent suggested headline from
our very own Barry Gregory to mark the first family's move into
the White House; SWEET HOME AL-OBAMA!
Martyn Best - Thu 22nd Jan 2009
Not sure how Tottenham managed to get themselves into that headline. They could barely get themesleves into the League Cup Final - but I'm well on board with the flow of what you've said.
