Being hailed as a 'lavish' entertainer whilst eating crackers three quarters of the way up a 10,000 foot mountain was a tad incongruous, says Dougal Paver.
Well, we're back from our mammoth trek up the Pyrenees and sea level is everything Besty and I dreamt of in the oxygen-starved heights of Aragon.
Try hauling yourself through deep snow up the back wall of a corrie with a heavy pack and the strain of an incongruous 32C heat and you'll know what exertion is. Especially at 8,500 feet, with the air getting nice and thin.
Still, we made it and our team raised £8,000 overall for Claire House, which is a great effort. Thanks go to all our sponsors, of course.
Much amusement was generated on the banks of the lovely Sabacos tarn when this item of trading gossip hit our in-boxes. Guilty as charged, m'lud - and, after four days of munching on energy bars, I was beginning to crave my normal life as a bon-viveur.
So what did I do for lunch today on my first day back? A humble bacon sarnie at my desk, that's what.
Memo to myself: get out more. Lavish is good.
