Award reward

Dougal Paver

Dougal Paver, Managing Director

Entering awards as a means of gaining recognition is sometimes sniffed at as a PR tactic, says Dougal Paver. He, however, is a convert.

The road to conversion was pretty straightforward - certainly nothing of Damascene proportions.

It went like this: "we're a dead big brand with big budgets and we saw that you won the How-do PR agency of the year award, so we'd like you on our pitch list, please."

There you go: converted.

People trust brands that they hear about in a positive light. If they're in the market for what the brand owner provides, then they'll take the trouble to investigate them further. If they keep hearing positive things - as our 'dead big brand' told us they had - then they'll be even more likely to talk to you.

And so at Paver Smith we follow the principle of 'physician heal thyself'. If we can't get great coverage for our own endeavours, why on earth would prospective clients believe we can do it for them?
