As my turn to blog comes around, along with the nervous cough
and sweaty palms comes a need for something to say - like most 18
year olds it becomes difficult to compete with my learned
colleagues when it comes to politics, the environment or the
economical situation in the third world.
It's also hard for me to sing the praises of Liverpool when
every Friday I can't wait to get in my beloved mini and escape
from the urban jungle to the peace and quiet of the countryside.
Anyway, I stumbled across a new office craze - "buzz-word
bingo". It's a simple game, apparently devised by the
underlings in the corporate world to brighten up their week. A
simple card is created with anything between 12 and 16 squares - in
each square a self selected "buzz word" or phrase is
written.
Nothing complicated here... the bottom line is, there's no
thinking outside the box needed - just get up to speed with
corporate speak and at the end of the day have some fun (did you
spot those 5?).
As with normal bingo when your selected phrase is used you simply
cross it off. The first to complete the card whispers
"office" to the other players (as opposed to house) and
wins the agreed prize (and some simple satisfaction). For a sample
card visit http://www.extensor.co.uk/buzzword.php.
Sadly this corporate "bingo" is all done very secretly
and becomes the hilarious subject over a few wkd's after work.
Now here's the twist - what if this was done quite openly?
Cards could be created with the overused phrases we really
don't like and instead of marking them off with a cross we
could put the name of the"culprit".
Would it then be possible to influence each other and prevent the
use of the everyday corporate language heard across the UK? Then
we'd be able to stand out even more and offer our clients a
service that not only works differently, but speaks to people and
behaves in a manner unique in the world of PR.
