Dougal Paver

Dougal Paver, Managing Director

What do you like most about your job?
The constant variety and the gentle fettling of the levers and pullies to ensure it all works. Then standing back and watching an outstanding team produce great work.

What is the best example of PR you have seen recently?
Ryanair's 'back to school' poster campaign, which was designed to outrage those of a gentle disposition knowing that it would secure tonnes of press coverage in the process, which it duly did. The oldest trick in the book, and it works every time.

Where is your favourite place in the world that you have visited?
Would it be too much of a cliché to say Ryan's bar on Parkgate Street in Dublin? Sumptuous dark mahogany, a nice crowd of locals, top scoff and the finest pint of Guinness in the entire city. Find me a stool in the corner, give me a cheese and ham toasty, a copy of the Irish Times and a pint of the black stuff and it's fair to say I'm in heaven. Other than that, it would have to be the Madriu valley in the Andorran Pyrenees - absolutely pristine, with wonderful butterflies and meadow flowers.

What do you do to unwind?
That depends on the time of year, but will variously include shooting things, fishing for things (fish, mostly), climbing up things (mountains, usually) or just chilling out reading a good newspaper.

What are you currently working on?
Booking in annual reviews with a series of clients for whom I act as relationship director. This is part of our quality management methodology and is an invaluable means of ensuring we stay on top of our game.

What is the best experience that working in PR has given you?
It's a continuous one: meeting fascinating people from all walks of life who are doing interesting things and pushing boundaries. Good people strive continuously, and in PR you meet strivers every day - I just love getting out of bed.

What are you doing this weekend?
Hosting a party for the Harlem Globetrotters in a stunning penthouse on the 40th floor of a waterfront apartment block. There are views all the way to Snowdon, 85 miles distant, and the bubbles will be flowing. Can't wait.

What are you reading at the moment?
'Spanish Best: The fine shotguns of Spain' by Terry Wieland. It explores the history of the Spanish gun trade up to the current day, examining the beautiful 'best quality' shotguns manufactured in the little Basque town of Eibar by makers such as Grulla, AyA, Arrieta and Ugartechea. I own a rare 12 bore by Victor Sarasqueta, who is considered the Godfather of them all.

What is your most prized possession?
My son Rory and the memory of his lovely sister, Evelyn.

What is your favourite quote?
"We're all lying in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars" (Oscar Wilde).
