10 things about... Tom Taylor

Tom Taylor, Account Director

Why design/advertising?

Fell into it really through a fascination with advertising brought to life from the pages of "Campaign" at Uni.

What is your guilty pleasure?

Amarone di Valpolicella.

If you could have any super power, what would you choose?

Flying, what fun!

Proudest career moment to date

Hitting our target of 100,000 Cable TV and phone customers at Telewest ahead of deadline, a big sales and marketing team effort in which I played my part. I also got to organise the outdoor party for the whole team, complete with professional fireworks display, circus acts and hog roasts!

Best decision you have ever made

Not leaving The Ataturk stadium in Istanbul at half time.

PR or advertising campaign you wish you had come up with?

Not so much a campaign, but a whole brand ID, image and philosophy.

Nike would be my choice and the strap line: 'Just do it'.

I grew up with this brand from when it was launched when I was a young enthusiastic runner. It was the new kid on the block in terms of sports brands, competing with the established players like Adidas and Puma. It captured the imagination of young sports minded people with great product placement, celebrity endorsement and 'edgy' advertising. It grew from almost a cottage industry, with its founder Bill Bowerman experimenting with new lightweight running shoes with a sole made from rubber moulded using his wife's waffle iron, to a truly global brand!

Nike is one of the few brands around today which can be recognised just by its logo, the 'swoosh'.

Thing you couldn't live without?

My tool kits built up over the years, and in particular my precision socket sets which I use when working on my car.

Most unusual thing you've ever done?

Working at Telewest, presenting our new branding to a few hundred Customer Service and Sales teams dressed in a tuxedo and top hat held together with Velcro, which I had to remove piece by piece to reveal an outfit with the new Telewest logo!! How bizarre!

What would be your desert island disc?

So difficult to pick one, but I guess I would go for The Wall by Pink Floyd (that's today's choice, come back tomorrow for a different one!)
