Rage Against The Machine's Facebook campaign to keep X Factor winner Joe McElderry off the Christmas number one spot - brilliant use of social media to make the public question Simon Cowell's music machine. And, of course, some great publicity for the band...

If you were an animal, what would you be?

A marmot - they spend all their time in the Alps, eating, sleeping, generally enjoying themselves - always strikes me as a nice existence.

Which aspect of your career do you enjoy the most?

The variety - each new day brings a new challenge and usually a new friend.

If your life story was made into a film, who would play the leading role?

Sandra Bullock - I am told by some that I look a little like her, so I suppose she is the obvious choice.

Favourite writer/ columnist?

One of my favourite columnists is The Guardian's Charlie Brooker, but there is no simpler pleasure in life than settling down with a George Eliot or a Thomas Hardy novel.

Print or online?

Both. I love sitting down with a newspaper and a coffee, but appreciate the instant nature of online news

What do you like most about Liverpool/ Manchester?

Liverpool - the friendly, chatty, fascinating people.

Manchester - the diehard devotion to being from Manchester

If you weren't in PR, what would you do?

I would be an academic - I love researching, theorising, understanding anything to do with the English Language.

Although I wouldn't say no to being a wildlife presenter...

iPhone or Blackberry?

I have a BlackBerry at the moment but with limited experience of the iphone, I can't really judge.
